I felt a little detached from the whole thing, though, because all of the instruction was done as a voice over, with the instructor doing each pose without talking directly to the camera. The classes were very soothing and I liked them. One day she might be by the beach, the next in the woods, or in a garden of sunflowers.

One thing I really liked about this series is that all of the segments are filmed outside in nature. Then I tried Happy Yoga with Sarah Starr. I’m not sure she means to be, but I think this gal is really entertaining. Also, for some reason she just really amused me more than anything. Wai Lana sings and dances for quite a while at the end of every episode. But time wise, the program was fairly light on yoga and really heavy on some singing and dancing at the end. She is very flexible and I found some of the poses too advanced for me. I liked that each program addressed a different aspect of fitness, like strength, or stamina, or flexibility. The scenery in this series is beautiful, and Wai Lana wears really colorful outfits and flowers in each segment. The first one I tried was the Wai Lana Yoga Series. Most of them come on super early in the morning so there was no chance I would see them live, ? so I set up a recording schedule for several different programs.

I did a search on the TV guide and saw there were lots of yoga programs I could record and do from home. I started doing that and enjoyed it but I felt that between the drive, the class, and then coffee I was giving up too much of my day to this. Several of the students began asking me to join them for coffee after class. They also weren’t as friendly as the gentle class students. I held my own but I felt out of place with the bendy girls. I wasn’t sure, but I attended that session the following week. After a few sessions, the instructor told me I could definitely handle the more strenuous class. I really liked the class and didn’t feel intimidated by the instructor or the other students. ? I felt like I should start with the less strenuous class since I didn’t have much yoga experience. They have two types of classes–a more gentle class that is less strenuous, and a class for all the hardcore bendy chicks. I am a member of a club that also offers weekly yoga classes so I started going. I had done a little yoga in the past, so I decided to look into starting up again. When my daughter left for college I was determined to stay busy and keep moving.
You can read my disclosure page for more information. we all had great fun together, chats, and spent time with each other both at the centre and outdoors. This post may contain affiliate links.
What I really liked about the experience was that I didn’t feel much of a divide between staff/teachers/participants.

Also, I have to say that I’ll be the first in line for Darren the Chef’s cookbook! I have never tasted such a variety of vegetarian/vegan dishes so full of flavour and creativity. The building itself is so comfortable, clean, and welcoming. The centre is set in the Burren, one of the most special places in Ireland. I learned so much from both the classes and spending time with other like-minded people on the retreat. She gave lots of options and allowed you to go at your own pace and explore your own practice. Her classes were so enjoyable and flew by. Kathryn was our amazing teacher for the week. Dave and Louise were always so helpful and I felt so taken care of that I could just let myself relax for the whole week (I even got a massage!). I am so grateful to have stayed at the Burren Yoga Retreat Centre for my first ever yoga retreat. The guided outings and hikes on the Burren were just the right level of challenging and whetted the appetite for a great lunch in one of the many brilliant local seafood bars and a swim later on in the Atlantic. The large light-filled studio was the perfect space, overlooking the Burren. Over the course of the weekend on the Boot Camp course with yoga teacher Niamh, I had the opportunity to try vinyasa yoga, meditation, yoga nidra, yogalates and hot yoga. The vegetarian food was delicious - like food for the soul as well as the body.
Having arrived at the centre on a Friday evening, I seemed to make new friends almost straight away. I wasn't sure what to expect travelling alone to the Burren but I'm glad I did and would definitely consider doing so again. If you're looking for a break from noise, screens and busyness and appreciate good food, good company and relaxation then this is a great destination for an unforgettable experience. A few days back from my weekend at the Burren Yoga Centre and I continue to feel the benefits.
